I am so glad to be part of the mathematics team at WSCA. It is an honor to be a part of the school family here. I hope that my students to leave my classroom knowing that they have been challenged and encouraged, and have exceeded their own expectations of themselves. In my classroom, math is not a set of rules or steps to follow, but the development of critical thinking, mathematical understanding, and an appreciation for the mathematical structure that underlies the world around us. My hope is that it can be a place where mistakes can be made fearlessly, because they are the most effective path to true learning. 

 

My goal is that we can move beyond the thinking that we are either "good at math" or "bad at math", and instead truly understand that the knowledge of mathematics is always a growing process, and that seeing the patterns and structures that form the world around us will develop all of my students into people who are always "getting better at math."
 
This year will be my 13th at Western Sierra. It has been exciting to be part of the growth of the math program at Western Sierra, starting from two teachers in 2011 to the team of eight we have now. 

I am excited this year to be teaching AP Statistics, AP Calculus AB, and AP Calculus BC. I am thrilled by the way Western Sierra students have risen to the challenge of AP math classes!
 
I received my Bachelors degree in Mathematics from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, completed the teacher training program at Sacramento State University, and earned a Masters in Mathematics Education from Western Governors University. For the past five years I have worked for ETS to score the AP Statistics test in Kansas City, Missouri. Two of my children have graduated from WSCA: Grace in 2016 and David in 2020.
